Dalia Awchi
, CLIME

Dalia M. Awchi is the director of Friends of Democracy, an organization based in Baghdad that she co-founded in 2004 to promote democratic ideals and free speech in Iraq. FoD's activities include grassroots training on the constitution (2004-2005), the creation of an Arabic blogging community with thousands of members (2004); and since 2006, university and grassroots outreach for the Pledge for Iraq (Ahd al-Iraq), a nationwide campaign to promote human rights values (www.ahdaliraq.net). CLIME provides Friends of Democracy with advocacy campaign skills training and materials.

Previsously, Dalia worked as a Loan Officer and Program Manager for the ACDI / VOCA Microsoft Project in Baghdad, where she helped organize loans to support projects in Abu-Ghraib, Fallujah, and Baqubah. She has held various management roles with international NGOs in Iraq since 2003, including oversight of $2 million in micro-finance loans. From 1989 to 1992, Dalia was the Assistant-Director at the Asma Secondary School, where she also taught the Art and English. She participated in the Sustainable Microfinance training program in Amman, Jordan. Dalia is fluent in Arabic, English, and Turkish, and will help with establishing CLIME's presence in Turkey.  She has a Bachelors in Interior Design from Baghdad University.
