Samer Libdeh
, CLIME

Samer Libdeh is a Jordanian journalist and a researcher with a focus on Democracy Promotion in Jordan and the Arab World at large. Before joining CLIME, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship Program – where he worked as a Legislative Fellow for the US House of Representatives International Relations Committee for Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-NY).

Previously, he initiated a number of European sponsored Arab-Israeli peace-building projects with a focus on peace-journalism and democracy education for young Jordanians, Palestinians and Israelis. In addition, he was a Foreign Desk Editor for Alaswaq Business Daily in Jordan until 2001. His articles have appeared in number of Middle Eastern newspapers, including Jerusalem Post, Daily Star and Jordan Times. He speaks Arabic and English.

The Jordanian government has long stressed its commitment to political reform, modernization and liberalization. The idealistic goal of democracy promotion has often been stymied by other strategic interests, such as the desire to maintain good relations with friendly autocratic regimes in the region that provide the United States with valuable cooperation in the war on terror, and help mediate the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
