Our Story
CLIME was created in 2006 to support individuals and civic groups that are spreading democratic values of liberty and tolerance in the Middle East. Over the course of the following five years, we reached thousands of people with our training and educational materials. While our team has moved on to other endeavors, we remain dedicated to the vision of a Middle East which protects individual liberties and respects ethnic, religious and political pluralism. Build the Intellectual Foundations for Liberal Democracy
CLIME exposed new generations in the Middle East to liberal democratic ideas though translations of over 500 pages of classic texts on liberty that were disseminated to thousands via the Internet and online courses on democracy. Our Voice of Liberty project and library of video interviews with activists featured more than 50 liberal intellectual leaders in the region.

Support Emerging Civic Leaders to Create Change from the Ground Up
Electoral candidates and activists have applied skills they learned in CLIME's programs to win elections and run campaigns addressing issues such as women's rights, minority rights, religious tolerance, corruption and honor killings. In Syria, youth trained by CLIME created a "Citizen Journal" on human rights with tens of thousands of subscribers. In Iraq, CLIME helped a coalition of over 150 groups introduce laws protecting women's rights.
